Been to KTV last night, with a hongkong girl who hasn’t been for the past 7 mths (Shocking indeed for a hongkongie :P).

Again, I am reminded on how beautiful, subtle messages that Chinese songs have. (heard that Hindi songs are the same). Instead of the usual english songs that say I love you, I miss you and you are hot! :P

We talk about
“Turning tears into poetry”, “Wounds into roses”, “I have turned my silence into deep remorse, with no way out; I can only say that I have nothing to say” ““My tears have turned into poetry for you to reminisce, words do not intoxicate human, but humans are mesmerized by them.” Probably I do little justice in its English translation, guess you really need to learn a language and how’s it is used to understand a teeny weenie bit of the culture then. Chinese culture definitely dwells on subtlety. Also have this thinking that song writers nowadays are our equivalent of modern day poets.

This latest song from Stephanie Sun, has the traditional er-hu instrument (think violin equivalent except it has only 2 strings) as the background music which adds to the Chinese traditional appeal. Flavour of the month after the karaoke attempt :)

Terence Teo

  • Did you know that 林夕 used this name because if you put the 2 characters together it's 夢 (in simplified Chinese)? He's a good songwriter though, no doubt. :)
