Boycott diamonds from conflict related zones

Caught the midnite show with June, Shah and CY tonite, and this movie totally blew me away. Blood Diamond, reminded me of the article that I posted some months ago at nomadlife on boycotting diamonds from conflict related zones. This movie masterfully shot has enabled me to steal a glimpse of the atrocities inflicted during civil wars in Africa and how the rest of the world "directly" or "indirectly" funds this mass killings. The diamonds can be illegally smuggled out of these ctys ( being oil-rich, gold/diamond rich seems to have done no gd for the african ctys) by the same government or the rebel groups who in turn get ammunition for their bloody wars. Its a sick sick cycle :(.

Though there is a Kimberley Process Diamond Certification Scheme, which nations have pledged not to purchase diamonds from conflice related zones, its ultimately CONSUMERS who spur any demand for any of them, as the theory of demand n supply so dictates. So next time, if you HAVE to buy a diamond, make sure its not from a conflict related zone.
