Looking at the moving world

through a new angle...

Have you seen a cow? A real one?

In town? Right at Raffles place the business district in Sg?

Magnolia Cow Magnolia Cow at Raffles Place

Well here you have it. XXX at Raffles Place as our company unveil its latest product offering: XXXX. Guess most Singaporeans, including me, has yet to see a real-life cow up close and personal, and not in a zoo. Hence it created quite a crowd, with people eagerly snapping shots with their techie camera phones.

"Look here Miss Cow, now here, and what do you think of your latest movie?" :P

inspiration to head back to the gym

poseidon

One of the reasons that I try to keep fit/lean and hopefully (try) to grow some muscles. Is who knows when you have to run the hella out of gushing waters and exploding fires, push open vaulted doors and hold your breath under the water for the longest times.

Had it as a reminder at the back of my head since I was a kid when I first saw such movies (aka natural disasters/ accidents can happen to any one on the street). And now to add, I probably need to get a swiss army knife in my bag, it just mite come in handy for cutting up grilled vents.

The Power of Movies.

I must be an advertising person's nightmare

I don't read the papers regularly
I don't watch TV much, only movies on HBO/Cable where there are no TV ads, yes not even American Idol :P
I don't read girly magazines
I don't listen to the radio
I plug into my mp3 player when I am out walking in town
I am numb to most entics/ advertising visuals
I detest sms promos, how the hell did they get my number!
I delete product emails almost everytime without reading
I don't enter into lucky draws coz I don't think I am ever that lucky to win
I throw away stamp coupons, Stamp 5 get 1 free kind as I am sure I will forget to bring the card out every time when I buy something
I am in my bubble :)

Being Preoccupied is what I am doing with work nowadays. Working in the FMCG market is a totally different ball game for me, and yes this is definately a FAST industry, its pace is 10-20x faster than my previous job at consumer durables aisle.

I was pretty much thrown into projects and all kinds of meetings, thats the fastest way to learn and I got lots of exposure and real responsibilities within 2 days? My mind is preoccupied with some project or another at every sec. And I have contracted the " Bring-It-Home" syndrome, though I am not physically working after working hrs, my brain is still thinking of work. Have to kick that habit, its extremely stupid esp when I was watching a movie at the cinema 2 weeks ago, I couldnt really totally let it go and enjoy the movie. Stress Ball, find something else to keep me busy on my personal time? Hehe oh well....

Thankfully enough, I like what I am doing so far and am accquiring new skill sets as I go along exploring new paths. And the BEST part is that working late nights is not the norm/ culture of the company. So how do we cope? Working more efficiently I guess? Hmmm interesting, will test out this theory:)

cheated

i have learnt from my early teen days when i get started reading an interesting fiction book, there is no stopping. i have done marathons reading up till 6am in the morning, when i have only one hr of sleep then waking up for sch at 7am then. it was crazy...

Alas really good books are hard to find, maybe thats why there are book clubs set up nowadys to share good books to read. Anyways, these 2 marathon reading days are of "once in a blue moon" kind, when I try to break into creative fiction for a change that can transport me to another world with the authors' literary talent...what do i end up with....engaging/promising plot from the beginning all the way to the very LAST pages...wat a disappointment! crap!

Catch Greece: Secrets of the Past

desktopsGreece1sm

Have'nt stepped into the Singapore Omnimax Theatre (just next to the Singapore Science centre) since my secondary school days? The theatre is shaped like a giant golf ball, the screen "surrounds" you and I bet you can even take a photo when the ruins behind you and it will look as if you are there. Was sorely tempted to try but nahhhh.

The film we caught last weekend was Greece: Secrets of the Past, as we are ardent lovers of greek mythologies. Though it didnt touch much on that, the storytelling was nonetheless fantastic on unearthing more information on how the volcanic eruption created Satorini ( a now famous holiday greek isle) and wiped out the entire population.

Fast facts:
The Thera volcano erupted around 1646 BC. The explosion was the most powerful of any volcano in the last 10,000 years, about 200 times as powerful as the explosion of Mount St. Helens in the U.S. 7 cubic miles of magma were released in the initial explosion and the column of ash from the eruption was likely about 23 miles high. The boom was so loud, people heard it in Sweden.

Sheesh, imagine...

But the coolest part of the whole documentary was they were able to RESURRECT the orginal Parthenon and the statue of Athena inside Parthenon using ground-breaking 3D modelling computer graphics. Parthenon is the temple built for workship of Athena- Goddess of Wisdom also the Proctector of Athens. So from the current ruins that we see now, we can instead have a look at it back then, in all grandeur.

and last but not least, the Goddess Athena, which now can't be found.
"The vividly painted statue of Athena was 42 feet tall and took the sculptor Phidias about 9 years of work. More than 1,000 KG of gold was used to create the gold and ivory statue."

It was so huge and lifelike, that I can't help but feel a little creeped out when the camera did a whole scanning of the of statue.

Alrite, Greek History Lesson 101 is completed for the day. :)

Mayday mayday

In 3 days, I have become the official sleeping monster. What I did to take advantage of the Mayday Holiday today and the weekend before.

Sleep, wake up eat, take medicine and off I go back to slumberland. I kid you not. I never knew I had so much capacity to sleep, but those drugs i tell you, can put an elephant out. My cough and sore throat is pretty much gone now, except for that irritating flubug which explains my otherwise nasal/sexy voice. arghh...how much more sleep do i need. All the errands that I wanted to do have vanished into smoke. The only consolation was I managed to do the ppts for work during my lucid moments, which ironically is the only entertainment I got hence it was quite enjoyable.

Final pill left. Let it work wonders.
