granted that singapore doesn't seem to have homeless pple roaming around the sts and beggars at every corner, it does have poor pple too. Heard that the gov actually bring the homeless to charity homes, hence you dont see them.
This article posted on ST lately citing a story of this grandmother taking care of 2 of her handicapped grandchildren. Really sad reality of human life. But after just feeling sad for 1 min, what else comes out of it? Just like the angst and disbelief due to senseless wars and natural tragedies that are happening in the rest of world, whats one to do other than just feeling sorry again for those few moments and quite naturally thanking god that I am in a safe environment or that is not happening to me.
my daily dilema, when i see pple begging for money, is to give or not? the mantra is not to, not to make life "simple" for pple who just beg for an easy way out or have the healthy 4 limbs. And even the blind and deaf/dumb pple who sell tissue packs at the food courts? Sorry this cty doesnt support the easy way out. Try something else.
A fine line. So when do we actually help pple really in need? What are the yardsticks to decide if this person is more worthy to give money than others? Disability? Is it easier to just ignore/to be numb to sufferings, and turn away when you see the life has dealt a heavy hand on an unfortunate few and focus on the how some just want the easy way out?
thinking aloud...
