Human beings are fickle and never learn.
You would think that you appreciate things more after each hurdle that you face, but the experience/ordeal is very quickly forgotten and you take things for granted again.
We should learn a thing or 2 from this chinese fable I heard when I was a kid about this emperor who was overthrown by an neighbouring cty, was let to live under the new rule, every night he would sleep on a makeshift wooden bed and taste the liver of a cow just to remind him day in and out the humiliation and pain that he suffered and to spur him to work hard to reclaim his kingdom. In the end he accomplished his task.
A dear grandaunt of mine doesn't feel well of the late, she has a condition which works as a ticking timebomb. We are worried for her and want enhance the quality of her life in her last years. But how so with problems that comes with old age, not hearing clearly, not seeing the tv due to poor eyesight, and when even walking to the bathroom becomese an ardous ordeal.
I am scared of getting old, being fragile, dependable and in pain. So live well and live a quality life while you can.
